On December 13, 1920, Hans Riegel legalizes the name HARIBO, an abbreviation from Hans Riegel – Bonn in Bonn’s Commercial Registry.

The initial capital of HARIBO consisted of a bag of sugar, a marble slab, chair, stove, copper boiler and a rolling pin.

In 1922 Hans Riegel laid the foundation stone of the upcoming success of HARIBO, by creating the “Dancing Bear” – a small figure of a bear made out of fruit gummy, which later became the world famous Golden Bear HARIBO.
